Who is writing this

My name is Elias Hensely. I was raised in a hollow in the southern Appalachians, in a house my great-grandfather put up, and I still live an hour from the nearest hospital on purpose.

I am not a survival instructor. I have never run a course. What I have is a childhood spent handing tools to a man who did everything himself, and thirty years since of doing it myself, wrong first and then right.

Josiah Hensely kept a ledger. Not a diary. A ledger, the kind you keep accounts in, and he wrote in it the way a man writes down a debt he intends to settle. Seed dates. Cure weights. What the weather did and what he should have done about it. I have most of that book. This is that book, finished, and filled out with everything I learned after he was gone.

I did not write it to be admired. I wrote it because in about twenty years there will be nobody left who was in the room.

Is this a physical book?

No. It is a PDF, delivered the second you pay. That is why it is $27 instead of $60. Print it at home or at a copy shop if you want paper.

Do I need land or a homestead?

No. Roughly half of it works in a suburb or an apartment: water, fire, food storage, medicine, weather, tools, preserving. The livestock and cabin sections need ground.

Is any of this dangerous?

Some of it, yes, and I say so plainly on the page. Curing meat, canning low-acid food, and handling lye all hurt people who guess. Every one of those chapters carries the real numbers and the real warning.

Is the medicine section medical advice?

No. It is history and folk practice, and it says so in the first paragraph. If a doctor is reachable, the doctor is the answer. The section is there so you know what the old remedies were and which ones genuinely hurt people.
